• What are the benefits of Free Virtual Drive? Show Answer | Hide Answer
First and foremost, Free Virtual Drive's File Synchronisation feature is the aspect of the service which has the greatest impact on the security and ease with which you manage your files. Remote backup is the solution to a problem plaguing data handlers since computers were first invented-how to safeguard files in a way which makes them invulnerable to loss, corruption, or accidental overwrite by outdated versions.
From floppy disks to flash drives, physical storage mediums all share the risk of damage and even theft. Your Free Virtual Drive, however, can only be misplaced if you forget the e-mail you sign up with, so be sure to use the one you access on a regular basis. Your password can be recovered with an e-mail reminder if you should lose it..
Free Virtual Drive is so much more than a convenient backup strategy-it's also a full-fledged media server, file sharing community and mobile access tool-but most users agree that synchronising documents is one of the most important ways Free Virtual Drive makes computing easier and more secure.

• How do I know my files are safe? Show Answer | Hide Answer
Free Virtual Servers has been providing both free and affordable premium hosting since 2001, when we launched what was then one of only three free web hosts in the UK. Geared to small and medium business, our success has led to offering Free Virtual Drive to meet the file synchronization and sharing needs of today's computer user.
Being responsible for so many sensitive files, security comes first. All Free Virtual Drive servers are protected by a firewall, advanced permissions protocol, and 256-bit Secure Socket Layer encryption. The network is partitioned to prevent cross-cripting and other types of digital attack.
The datacenter itself was acquired from the Bank of England, which used the facility as a gold repository. Today, that same security guards your digital gold from any sort of physical invasion.

• What access do your staff or associates have to my documents? Show Answer | Hide Answer
The short answer is none, really. Because the files are stored throughout a partitioned network, even the system administrator lacks the ability to read your files. While it is technically possible for the admin to extract file IDs from the database, locating a file, identifying the format and decoding it would be a prohibitively laborious task.
Our trustworthy and expert staff has more important things to do.

• How come it takes so long to upload files? Show Answer | Hide Answer
Most users are used to extremely rapid downloads, but those new to uploading files are surprised at the disparity in speed. Generally internet connections deliver downloaded files up to 20 times faster than they can upload. This is due to the traffic flow on the Information Superhighway, which tends to flow from server to PC, rather than the reverse.
Our software allows several strategies to overcome this, especially using the advanced point-and-click uploader, which compresses files during transfer. Another option, specifically for photos, is to select the auto-resize setting.

• Is Free Virtual Drive compatible with File Server Protocol (FTP) software? Show Answer | Hide Answer
Since the simplicity of the drop-and-drag file manager replaces FTP, there is no need to use an FTP server to access your Free Virtual Drive. The capability would be redundant.
To serve the needs of our users who are also web developers, we do have plans to add WebDAV access to premium accounts, but there is no reason or plan to complicate the interface with FTP.
